an upcoming residential colony in an area of about 6 acres was designed at Koppal. the colony consists of 30' x 40' plots, few designed as two storey houses and the remaining as single storey houses. the design responds to the climate of this region, being a hot and dry place, which clearly reflects in the design with very few openings towards the south and west. apart from the entry and the toilets, the plinth of the groud floor is lower than the external ground level, in order to maintain a lower temperature in the internal spaces. the volumes are also to the bare minimum in order to hav lesser surface area, hence absorbing less heat.
